Buy pallet cages for storage and transport

A pallet cage, also known as a stillage or mesh pallet, is a steel cage with mesh walls and a sturdy base for storing and moving heavy goods. You pick it up with a forklift or pallet truck and stack it fully loaded on another cage, making use of your warehouse height. Through the mesh you can see straight away what's inside. Empty, a standard pallet cage weighs 60 kg and a half-height one around 45 kg. Include that weight when you work out the load on your racking.

Choose new and you decide the size, the finish and the flap yourself, and you get a cage without chipped paint. If the cage is mainly for internal use and doesn't need to look new, our used pallet cages are a more affordable alternative.

Choose the size that fits your pallets

The euro format matches euro pallets of 1200 x 800 mm. A cage like this measures 1240 x 835 x 970 mm externally and 1220 x 790 x 800 mm internally, giving 750 litres. If you work with block pallets of 1200 x 1000 mm, the block format fits better: 1240 x 1035 x 970 mm, with a capacity of 826 litres.

If you need less height or easier access to the contents, a half-height model of 550 mm is handy, with a capacity of 375 litres. It comes in both formats. To use your own euro pallets, put a mesh pallet collar of 1200 x 800 x 800 mm on top. It is supplied without a pallet and folds flat when you don't need it.

Most versions carry 1,000 kg and have a stacking load of 3,000 kg, the weight that can rest on top. For heavier work there are cages with a 1,500 kg load capacity and a 6,000 kg stacking load. One of them is built to the UIC 435-3 standard and is approved for the European Pool. All internal dimensions, capacities and weights side by side are in our wiki on pallet cage dimensions.

Painted or galvanised

If you mainly use the cages indoors, a painted version in RAL 7030 grey will do. It is also the most affordable choice. To separate goods flows by colour, there is a blue variant in RAL 5010. If the cages often stand outside or in a damp space, choose a hot-dip galvanised pallet cage. The zinc coating protects the steel against corrosion, so the cage lasts a long time indoors and out.

The base makes a difference too. As standard, a pallet cage has a wooden base with a steel profile. A profiled steel base adds extra strength for heavy goods. You'll find it on most galvanised models and on some painted ones.

The right version for your process

Most models have a drop-down flap on the long side, so you can reach the contents while the cages are stacked. If you work in narrow aisles, a flap on the short side is more practical, and there is also a version with a fully removable front. For valuable goods there are models with an anti-theft flap that you lock with your own padlock.

If a cage has to go on a crane, pick a hot-dip galvanised model with lifting eyes. To wheel it through the hall, there is a pallet cage with two swivel castors and two fixed castors that carries 500 kg. The castors are supplied loose, without fixings. A collapsible cage folds down to 350 mm when empty, so empty cages take up little space. Dividers split a cage into compartments and are available for full-height and half-height cages and for the block format.

Not everything is suited to a pallet cage. For tyres and long materials, stacking racks with stanchions are often more practical. Small parts fall through the 50 x 50 mm mesh and are better kept in galvanised steel stacking bins.

Ordering and delivery

We deliver from Bladel, the Netherlands, to 13 European countries, including the UK and Ireland. Order on a working day before 5 pm (Dutch time) and if the model is in stock, we dispatch it the next day. All prices exclude VAT.

You pay shipping per pallet space, not per cage. Two standard pallet cages stacked take up one pallet space, so the second travels at the same rate. Half-height cages fit four to a pallet space, the collapsible version seven and the mesh pallet collar as many as twenty. Each product page shows how many units ship for the same rate.
